The Frito Lay company is responsible for creating the "Crash the Superbowl contest" for the last couple of years the average everyday Joe can make their own commercial about Doritos in hopes of being picked as the best Superbowl commercial of the year. This year the Frito Lay people are also incorporating Pepsi Max into the Mix. There is a huge prize of one million dollars to the winner of the first place commercial and $600,000 to the second place winner. The submission deadline was in November. Voting is still taking place! I have included the link below if you would like to vote on your favorite Pepsi Max or Doritos commercial. Is it safe to say that the best Superbowl commercials are also relegated to 3 categories: beverages, snacks, and cars? I didn't watch the super bowl and wasn't sure what was going on this year but this post is a testament to the most memorable idiosyncrasies about our Superbowl ritual - the commercials.
It might be just a matter of time before the effort and preparation to advertise for the holiday seasons will come second to the effort and time to prepare the Superbowl commercials. it seems that way anyway because the Superbowl only has 1 day of festivities as opposed to a vague season with multiple and somewhat related holidays. E.g., Christmas has advent calendars, caroling, buying presents, parties, Santa visits at the mall, and the list continues.
Superbowl? We know it happens, but we don't prepare for the hype, yet, the degree of creativity in the commercials for this event exceeds that of the commercials we see during the holiday season. So the preparation might be higher in that regard because the advertisers have to cram a whole years worth of creative effort into a visual display that lasts one minute or less. Talk about tough editing!
