Celebrity Charities for Haiti

 The tragedy in Haiti has stirred a lot of emotions within  us.  People are trying to find more and more ways to help the people of that country. Some of those people are teh rich and famous, the celebrities using their fame and fortune to organize charities to help others.  Who are the celebrities organizing fundraisers?  read on to find out who , when and where these fundraisers will take place.

Rumour has it that  musicians, such as Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban and Alicia Keys are getting together to share their talents in the Hope for Haiti telethon. This telethon was put together by George Clooney! While at the premier of his new Movie Up in the Air,Clooney recruited talent for his fundraiser including the likes of Sting! The telethon is scheduled for to air ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT and 7 p.m. CT on Friday, January 22.   The proceeds generated from this event will be split evenly between all the seven organizations operating in Haiti: Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Yele Haiti Foundation and World Food Programme.

Save Haiti Saturday is comprised of several vendors. These vendors promise on Saturday, a portion of it's proceeds can go to the Haiti relief fund. Vendors include, Auntie Annes pretzels,Table 31 and David's Cafe and many more.  Lenny Kravitz is lending his name to this charity and encourages everyone to get out on Saturday to the listed vendors!

George Lopez of Lopez Tonight is organizing a fundraiser in coordination with CARE. On February 4, 2010 he is throwing a benefit at the Nokia Center called 'Help Haiti" He promises the best musicians and comedians will be there. he also promises 100% of proceeds will go directly to CARE. If yo can't make it to the show George Lopez wants you to donate thorough his website. He will match up to $25,000!

The Larry King Telethon raised five million for the Haiti charity. His funds went to UNICEF and to the American Red Cross. On January 19, 2010 CNN held the fundraiser " Haiti, How you can help Now" Many celebrities attended this event. Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Ritchie attended as well as Snoop Dogg and Paula Abdul.  There were no shortage of celebrities here!

Individual efforts are being made from celebrities. John Travolta has lended one of his planes to fly volunteers and supplies to Haiti. Kim Kardasian is hosting a benefit for Haiti in Cleveland. Sandra Bullock has donated one Million dollars to relief efforts as well as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It is rumoured that Tiger Woods is sending a mobile hospital to Haiti.  Rihanna released a remake of the song Redemption from Bob Marley in which the proceeds are to go towards th Haiti releif fund.   Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, a member of Outkast has teamed up with a councilman in Atlanta.  They had a fundraiser  to attmept to raise 10 million dollars.  No word on how they made out!

So it seems that big money is pouring in.  Hopefully it will be accounted for and go to the appropriate places.  It would be nice to hear a report of how the money was handled. This writer is curious if there are any governing agencies that help monitor the money.  Regardless, immediate assistance is paramount for Haiti. Every day I have heard a story about someone being pulled out of the ruble alive! It is great to see that those who can help are doing so.
