Creative Dating Ideas
67So you found that special someone but the economy is so tight that you barely have the funds to impress? Well rethink the date night and how you can get to spend some quality time with your special someone. The economy leaves us with little spare cash so we have to get creative and come up up with our own inexpensive dating ideas.
Keep it simple
First of all if you are really into that gal or guy be honest with them and let them know you are interested in dating but are short on cash. Your intended date may be able to come up with some cheap dating ideas as well!. The dating activity can be something simple as going for a walk or out for cup of coffee. If you want to go out on the town find out when your local pub is having their specials. Maybe they have a chicken wing night special or a happy hour. Try to avoid fast food if you are relatively new to going out. Burgers and fries are not impressive! It is Ok to go to a matinee when the prices are cheaper. Usually if you go to a matinee you don't run into the bigger crowds anyway. Go on picnic in the park! Grab some already made chicken and some extras for the supermarket and spend the date in the park.
Entertain at home
If you are in a fairly comfortable relationship then there is nothing wrong with staying at home for your inexpensive date!. Cooking dinner together and watching a DVD can be a wonderful way to spend the evening. Maybe taking in some time to stargaze, especially if you have a telescope!. Play board games or play cards. Invite friends over on occasion for a board game party or to watch your favorite sporting team.
Look for Community Events
Look for events in your community that are free or low in cost. Parades and some fairs and festivals are a great way to spend time together. If you are fortunate enough to live near an aquarium or a museum take advantage when they have low rates for admission.
Get Physical
If you are fairly competitive in nature find out when your local bowling alley has discounted rates. Go for long walks or play tennis when the courts are free. You can train for the nest walkathon or five mile run that will occur in your area. Go play basket ball at your local gym or YMCA. Fishing is a sport that can be fun if you have access to a lake stream or river. How about miniature golf? It is usually inexpensive and fun!. Another suggestion for only the truly coordinated is roller skating or ice skating. If you are older and are not good at it don't do it! As you can see on this hub the emergency room is NOT mentioned as an inexpensive date!
Play Outdoors
If you and your date are outdoorsy there are lot of things to do! Adventure will tell a lot about a person's character. If you are near a scenic place take a drive and go on a hike! If you are both active and do not mind some wilderness go on a camping trip. This can be a relatively inexpensive trip. Go Geo-caching. Check your area for any gem mines. Take your date way to dig in the dirt and look for precious stones!. How about spelunking? Make sure neither of you have phobia of being in small tight spaces or the dark first. Maybe there is a Spelunking group in your area who would not mind you tagging along the next time they go cave dwelling.
Get Classy!
Take a class together! Maybe both of you like cooking or want to learn how to make pottery or take a photograph. Whatever the passion find a community class that does not charge much for the course.
Attend a book club or a book reading. So often these days authors are scheduled in your local book store to discuss what they wrote. that would be a stimulating activity to do with your date.
Do some volunteer work. Once in a while make a commitment to help out at your church or hospital or other volunteer center. This would be a great date because it would show some of the more postive characteristics of your mate.
If history is your passion join a geneolgy club!
Go Shopping
No not to the mall. Go shopping in thrift stores or flea markets. Check your local papers to find out when the next yard sales will be occurring. A lot of communities in my area are always having neighborhood yard sales. Make it a game to find a certain item at the lowest cost. You never know what you might find!. Take time to research the history of the item. You never know when you might come across an antique!.
If you are fortunate to live in a metroplin area you can go window shopping. Grab a cup of coffee and check out the store windows for the latest displays.
Computer time
If you have a computer in the home there are boundless projects you can do together! Create a video for You tube or write a hub! Research, email or play games!.
So as you can see there are a lot of inexpensive dating ideas. Having a cheap date is not the same as being a cheap skate! As long as the time spent together is quality time that is what matters most!.

wonderful ideas!
dori
I have to smile after reading this hub, Ms Chievous. When I was in college, money was almost NEVER an issue due to the fact that all of us were practically broke (yet had money for alcohol and contraband). If the person in question is really into you, there shouldn't be a problem with dating them. You gave some really great ideas here. Thank you.
My ideal date is so simple like what you said here. I'd rather watch a movie at home with my date rather than go on fancy dinner or something. I'm not saying that this fancy dinner is not required, it is but from time to time. I find your hub appealing Ms Chievous, thanks.
Manam I glad those days are gone for myself. All good ideas darlin'.
Ms Chievous,
Great ideas. We really need to connect better on a real level and not always try to impress with $$$.
Love the picture with the lawn chairs!!!
You've got a nice collection of ideas here. So, the dollar menu at McDonalds is out of the question then?
